Watercolors

Ok I have been a bad blogger and not posted much here in a few months. Been kinda hectic as I started a new job (now really full time instead of Semi full time like my last job) and we moved to a new and better house. Its all left me a little forgetful of the fact I even have a blog.

I finally got some decent photos of my watercolors taken. Thank goodness my digital SLR has anti shake technology that allows me to stand right over the paintings and snap some pretty good photos of them. I was trying to keep my Flickr account simply pictures but decided it was the easiest way to share the paintings with the various friends and family that keeps wanting to see my art. So here it is My Flickr Account

Well I finally got this silly PDF thing worked out. My PDF writer is an older version and it just doesn't like things about my computer. It causes all sorts of bugs and then its a huge pain to try and remove. I mentioned something to my husband who is a computer programmer and he said that Open office has the feature built right in. So simple a solution I can hardly believe it.

My newest watercolor picture. I have completed another painting between this one and the last but its going to be a gift for someone and I am not 100% sure they don't read my blog from time to time.

I really love how this painting turned out. I don't have a mat or frame for it yet and so need to get down to the craft store and get one picked out for it.

And then there were sheep

So I have been waiting forever for the new looms to come out as I have had this idea for a sheep toy in my head for several months now. And here it is. REALLY easy to make. Body is done on the small (blue) knifty Knitter loom. Knit for about 6 1/2 inches, remove it like a hat. Stuff it and then stitch the other side up like a hat as well. The head was made on the new flower loom but a small baby bootie loom would work as well. Knit over 2 pegs for about 4 rows for an ear and then knit over 2 more pegs for another ear, then knit all around the loom for about 10 rows and then remove like a hat. Feet were done on the large side of the new cord loom but a mitten thumb loom would work as well. Knit for about 8 rows and remove like a hat. Stuff the face and feet and sew them onto the body. Knits up in no time. I have put an email into Provo Craft so many if I am lucky they will post it on their web site once the new looms are officially released.

The Hook Up

Sometimes it pays to know people with connections. My wonderful Manager Karen at Roberts got me a couple of the new looms to play with. Told me to take them home and have fun. I already have some plans for some of them. I just have to find the time to make things, I have been at my normal job during the day and at Roberts at night almost all this week. So this weekend will be the soonest I can get some time to play with these. The Oval loom is neat. It has a smaller peg, both in how big around the peg is and in how tall it is. Its also spaced closer together then the Round looms pegs so wont need as much yarn I suspect. I haven't quite figured out what I am suppose to do with the weaving loom, not sure how to use it or what it makes. But all in all I am now even more excited for the new looms to come out. These are just loaners so I really want them out soon so that I can have a set (or two ;-) of my own.

I'll post some of the things I make on them as I finish them.

Newest Painting

This is my latest watercolor. I had a lot of fun painting this and it had stuff I had never done before. It was taken from a photo I found on Flickr.com. Very few of my watercolor painting have actually be framed. While they turn out nice some just have a little something that I don't like and so I never frame them. This one is a framer. This photo is not a great one as I took it at night so I will try and get a better one taken.

New Hat

My mom bought me this really cute tan jacket to celebrate my new job. I just love the jacket but needed a hat to go with it. I had some Lyon Suede yarn that I had made 3 attempts to make something with. I would get half way through the hat or something and then frog the whole thing because I didn't like how it was turning out. I finally made something I like and now I need to get started on a scarf to match.

Here is my latest kitty. Turned out pretty fun using a strand of orange TLC and white Home Spun. I am also including a photo of the pieces before they are all put together. Soon hopefully the pattern will be up on Anne's site and then everyone else can start making kitties of their own.

There She Blows

Well it was suppose to be a Koi for my mom as its one of her favorite fish. But its tail faces the wrong way so it looks more like a Whale. Not bad for a first draft but not real impressive either. Next one I will try and do in White and Orange and make the tail facing the right way.

No pattern for this one yet. I did it on the Purple loom knitting on the round so I could decrease as I worked down the tail. When I got down to 4 peg (2 on each side) I removed 2 pegs on 1 site and put the loops on a stitch holder. Then I increased to 5 pegs knitted for a while and then decreased a peg each row till I had no more to decrease. I then put the loops on the stitch holder back on the loom and did that again. Fins were done starting with 2 pegs for a couple rows and then going to 4 till the fin was long enough.

When I get the second one made and can play around with the pattern a little more I will try and post better directions.

Loom Knit Kitty

Well after 3 attempts I finally got the Kitty pattern down good. I am working on kitty #4 and this one will finally be perfect. Look for directions soon.

I am so proud of myself adapting this pattern all by myself.

Yay for kitties.

First Kitty

The kitty was fairly easy to make but I am not 100% happy with how it turned out. Still need to make some adjustments to the pattern I think. Once I get it figured out better I will post the loom pattern here so others don't have to make the same trial and error as me. The above kitty was made on a KK loom. I am currently making one on a regular gauge rake to see how it turns out. So far I only have the body of kitty #2 done so I cant tell for sure yet how its going to turn out.

On a side note my knitted kitty got the seal of approval from my cat Luna. She tried to attack it. I thought it was cute but my husband made a good point about not teaching her that my knitted items are ok to attack so I took it away from her.

Too Many Guppies

Not a great photo, but then guppies don't make the best subjects.

So my guppies kept dying and I was getting sick of buying replacements. So I had this great idea to buy a little baby fish net and place the babies that were born into the net so they could survive. This way I could replace what dies with what I have born. About the same time I got the net I also updated the tanks filter system as it was in need of a upgrade. Since then I haven't lost a single fish. And you guessed it, most of the babies survived too. So now instead of too few fish, I am going to have way to many.

Yesterday the babies got released from the net into the whole tank. I figure if some cant cut it, its no huge loss. So far even the very tiny ones are doing good. That will be my luck that they all thrive. The photo doesn't show it well but there is at least 20 babies swimming around the tank and hiding in the fake plants.

They sure are fun to watch, and because they are always hungry they are always happy to see me.

New painting

I finished another painting last night at water color class. It was my first attempt at painting flowers. A very interesting learning experience. I have included the photo that the painting was based on.

Hat and Scarf

Here is my newest project. Its a modification of the Basket weave scarf listed on the Provo Craft web site. I did this scarf and hat with a Garter stitch (knit a row, purl a row). I cast on 2 pegs then skip a peg, cast on 2 more pegs and so forth. Then when I was done I weaved the ribbon yarn into the parts I had skipped a peg. It gives a really fun hint of color.

Bunnies!

Well I have been a bunny making fool.

I made a couple changed to the pattern listed. I have been doing 20 peg bunnies as they are a bit easier to handle, and I have only been going 10 stitches on the ears as the 12 it say is a little too long and floppy. I have made almost 10 bunnies now. Some have been given to my co-workers who recently had babies. The rest are just hanging around as I love all things bunny.
What a fun project these have been.

My First Post

Well here it is. My very first blog and my very first post. This blog is mostly going to be for sharing my loom knitting projects. I am also an avid painter and photographer so I may share those works here from time to time. Over the next few days I will be adding posts and photos of various projects I have completed or are working on.
